THE ALTERNATIVE CROSS STITCHING MAGAZINE

Submit Your Work

Chaos Cross Stitch Magazine is now accepting submissions from both established and emerging cross stitch artists. We welcome a wide range of alternative and spooky-inspired styles including witchy, gothic, cute creepy, dark humor, traditional Halloween, tattoo-inspired artwork, cozy spooky themes, and more. Both beginner-friendly and highly detailed patterns are encouraged.

Artists retain full copyright ownership of their work. We do not redesign submitted patterns, but all submissions must be clean, readable, professionally formatted, and include a Pattern Keeper-compatible version, organized floss chart, and clear instructions where applicable.

AI-assisted mockups and promotional imagery are allowed, but fully AI-generated artwork converted directly into charts without meaningful artistic refinement will not be accepted.

Contributors may appear under their real name, business name, or online handle, and must maintain at least one social media account and a storefront or online creator presence where readers can support their work.

Most importantly, do not be afraid to submit if you are brand new. Chaos Cross Stitch Magazine was created to help showcase independent artists and give new creative voices a place to be seen.

Please review our full Artist Submission Policy before submitting your work.

What Featured Contributors Receive

Artists selected for publication in Chaos Cross Stitch Magazine will receive a dedicated creator feature designed to help readers discover, support, and connect with their work.

While exact layouts may vary by issue, featured contributors will generally receive:

  • A dedicated two-page creator spread
  • A featured presentation of their submitted pattern
  • Artist or shop spotlight coverage
  • A short interview or creator Q&A
  • Promotional links to their shop, website, or storefront
  • Social media promotion and creator tags where applicable
  • Contributor credits within the magazine
  • Opportunities for future collaborations or recurring features
  • A free copy of the magazine you are featured in.

Contributors may also be considered for:

  • Cover artwork placement
  • Seasonal issue highlights
  • Special edition features
  • Promotional banners or advertisements associated with the issue release

Cover placement is selected entirely at the editorial discretion of Chaos Cross Stitch Magazine and may be subject to additional formatting, preview, visibility, and content suitability requirements.

Due to storefront visibility standards and platform restrictions:

  • Cover artwork may not contain explicit sexual content
  • Excessive profanity may not appear on covers
  • Artistic nudity may be restricted from front-facing promotional materials
  • Cover designs must remain suitable for public storefronts, previews, and advertising spaces

Contributor Compensation

During the magazine’s first year of operation, accepted contributors will currently receive $20 USD compensation per accepted featured submission unless otherwise stated in a separate agreement.

As a newly established independent publication, Chaos Cross Stitch Magazine is currently operating in its foundational growth stage. This initial compensation structure reflects the magazine’s early development period and is not intended to represent the long-term value we place on contributor work.

Bone & Briar Holdings fully intends to expand contributor compensation opportunities as the magazine grows, including the potential for:

  • Increased submission payments
  • Expanded feature compensation
  • Sponsored artist opportunities
  • Revenue-sharing projects
  • Special issue bonuses
  • Larger commissioned collaborations

Our long-term goal is to build a publication that meaningfully supports and promotes independent artists within the cross stitch community while growing into stronger compensation structures over time.

Submission Review Timelines

We kindly ask contributors to remain patient during the review process and to avoid sending repeated follow-up emails or status check requests regarding active submissions.

As a small independent publication, Chaos Cross Stitch Magazine carefully reviews submissions for not only quality and technical standards, but also future issue themes, seasonal planning, editorial balance, artist variety, and long-term publication scheduling.

In some cases, a submission may be an excellent fit for the magazine, but may not align with the immediate issue currently in production. Certain designs may be held for consideration in future seasonal releases, themed editions, special features, or later publication windows.

Because of this, a delayed response does not necessarily indicate rejection.

If we are interested in moving forward with your work, whether immediately or at a later date, our editorial team will contact you directly when appropriate.

We deeply appreciate every submission we receive and understand the time, creativity, and effort involved in creating original pattern work. Your patience allows us to properly review and thoughtfully curate the strongest possible experience for both artists and readers.

The Submission Process

We aim to keep our submission process simple, approachable, and creator-friendly, especially for new artists who may be submitting to a publication for the very first time.

01

Initial Submission Review

Begin by submitting preview images of your design along with our contributor questionnaire. At this stage, we are primarily reviewing artistic fit, style, originality, and overall compatibility with the magazine.

02

Editorial Interest Notification

If your work feels like a strong fit for an upcoming issue, you will receive a follow-up email from our editorial team letting you know we are interested in moving forward with your submission.

03

Final Publication Materials

Once approved, you will submit your finalized publication materials, including your completed pattern files, Pattern Keeper version, floss information, creator details, shop links, interview responses, and any additional promotional assets needed for publication.

04

Publication Scheduling & Compensation

After final review and acceptance, you will receive your contributor compensation along with your scheduled publication window and any promotional details associated with your feature.
